What effect does Hoodia have on an unborn child?

A friend has been taking a green tea suppliment with hoodia to lose weight. She just found out she is pregnant. At first we were both really siked because I am 5 weeks and we figure she is 4 weeks. Now we are a little worried because we don't know what effect hoodia has had on her baby.
She stopped taking it the day she found out she was pregnant.

well, the good news is that she stopped taking it, now… as to the affects, i don’t know, whenever she goes to see the doctor for the first appt, tell her to advise the doctor that she was taking those two things before she knew she was pregnant. I’m sure she’ll be fine though… especially because i hear that the baby doesn’t start really feeding off of you until the end of your 2nd month into the third month, if even that early…

Please keep in mind that I am no doctor here and I’m only providing this answer based on the research I’ve done on hoodia the past year.
For starters, your friend was smart to stop taking hoodia immediately because we don’t know what the effects are on unborn children. That’s why it’s strongly advised that all pregnant and nursing women avoid hoodia supplements and any diet supplement of any kind.
Having said that, so long as your friend was taking authentic hoodia gordonii with no other ingredients in the product, I doubt there has been any harm done to the baby. Hoodia gordonii contains a molecule that tricks the brain into thinking you are full. The idea behind hoodia supplements is that if you feel full, you’ll eat less. Thus, you’ll lose weight.
So hoodia gordonii isn’t a stimulant or anything “dangerous” like that to your friend or her baby. I suspect the concern with hoodia diet pills is that if the mother feels full and eats less, so will the baby. After all, what the mom eats and drinks, so does the baby. If mom isn’t eating and drinking, neither is the baby.
As you know, babies need lots of food and water to grow and be healthy. You don’t want to deprive them of their necessary food and water. That’s why hoodia isn’t a good thing to be taking when you are pregnant. Mom needs to eat – and needs to eat alot because she’s eating for two;)
Once the baby is born, then tell your friend she can work on shedding any unwanted “baby fat” and at that time can consider hoodia gordonii. Until then, eat normally and keep the hoodia supplements on the shelf for now.

Hoodia is another much repeated urban diet myth, there are hundreds. The problem also with substances like this, is that since they have no element of medical control there are no data sheets and no specific data on their effects on the foetus.
Although it is unlikely to be an issue absolute reassurance is not possible. Advise in future avoid quack remedies!
If you want to loose weight there is no substitute for simple diet and EXERCISE!
The custodial parent is the parent who has custody of the child. This mean the child live with this parent. The non-custodial parent is the parent who doesn't have custody of the child. This means the child doesn't live with that parent. When a couple have joint custody this means the child is with both parents for equal time. Once you share custody, there sometimes in some case, is no child support. If you were to go and put him on child support, he will then be considered a non-custodial parent. If he doesn't agree with being the non-custodial parent, then you two will end up in family court fighting for the child. I don't think he'll like the fact of become a non-custodial parent. You would probably have to fight with him in court. My advice to you (as I'm a single mother with the father on child support) is to try to work out something else. If he refuses to cooperate, then go for the child support, otherwise try another route. I'm pretty sure he'll appreciate it.

The Vatican has praised a pledge by two newly elected Italian regional officials to halt the distribution of the abortion drug RU-486.
The decision by the two conservative officials has rekindled a debate in Italy over RU-486, which was legalized last year. The drug can be administered by doctors in hospitals but cannot be sold in pharmacies.
Italian newspapers said Friday that the first batches of the pills were being distributed this week.
Monsignor Renato Fisichella, the Vatican’s top bioethics official, said the officials’ move was “in defense of life and therefore it has my praise.”
